Making it through the Mindfields - Temptation.

March 20th 2013.
Cascade Hills Church
Columbus, GA
Pastor: Adam Churchwell

The series our youth group is currently undergoing is called "Making it through the Mind fields" A series based solely on targeting things and events in our lives that tend to knock us down. This weeks topic was "Temptation" I took a few notes as Pastor Adam was doing his sermon and this is what they are, a further explanation will follow.

"God does not tempt us, Satan does, though he can not MAKE us sin."
"Satan not only tempts us when we are weak but he will also tempt us when we are at our strongest. He targets not only vulnerability but he targets PRIDE."
"We can know scripture but not LIVE it. People tend to twist the word into their own meaning and base it on their needs and not what he is actually teaching us."
"God provides us all a way to escape temptation."
"It doesn't matter the amount of scripture you read in a day , or a week , because ALL scripture is a lesson useful for teaching."
"God will forgive you for all of your sins, but NO sin goes without consequences."
"Some mind fields can change you and your life FOREVER."

Some scriptures read tonight include:
18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil.
“A voice is heard in Ramah,
    weeping and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children
    and refusing to be comforted,
    because they are no more.”[a]
13 No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Ways we can defeat temptation? RUN .
Literally , R.U.N.
Read Gods word- start with a verse a day it will help you grow and develop as a Christian.
Use Gods power - the struggle you feel when facing temptation is the Holy Spirit within you fighting.
Never go without asking God "Is this right..?"

Temptation is all around us, every day it haunts us in different forms whether it be in our relationships or in our diets. We must learn to trust in him and know that we are stronger than any amount of temptation Satan throws at us. We also need to remember to READ THE WORD. Without the word we cannot teach others how to face temptation.

The bible is our love letter from God, our Manual to life, live it each day and teach it to others among you.

Remember that we are ALL strong enough to face the temptation in our life as long as we trust in the Lord our God and KNOW THE WORD .
